This was a fairly simple project to convert an under the stairs playhouse that was no longer used (because my kids are getting older) into a generic closet. I call it the bird sanctuary because it is the new "safe space" for the birds at night (and when they're annoying the hell out of us).
What at first seemed like a cruel maneuver by me turned into an agreeable location for the birds (aka flying rats). They come out and chill with the family throughout the day and have several other havens to spread their wings, drop a load every 15 minutes, and destroy inanimate objects. So, when we put them away for the night they seem to enjoy the quiet and safety.
I had to remove the old playhouse walls and floor before I could begin construction of the doorway. There are a lot of memories in here, noted by all the writing on the walls - including a few slanderous phrases like "your mom's got a big butt".
Door instllation would have been easier if the builders of our home actually leveled the main understairs wall. I had to redo the door installation once I discovered that.
Mudding sucks. That's all.
Door looks good and now the birds have their safe space where they won't drive me bonkers.
