I went fully remote by the end of October and Jessica (fully remote herself) already claimed our main office. I had to convert the upstairs "game room," occasionally used by the family, into my office.
It had an 8 foot doorway with no doors and I didn't want to put regular swinging doors in. So I opted for pocket doors to save space.
This is always the frightening part because there are typically unknowns. How is the wall constructed? Is the upper beam load bearing? Turns out, it wasn't. But I still shored i up just in case. I think the way the roof trusses are built they distribute the weight quite well and this wall is bearing none.
Pocket doors are handy when you don't want to take up space with swinging doors. But the walls are less rigid than regular 2x4 construction. I suppose as long as we don't have a belligerent band of boys running into them we should be ok.
I hate mudding with a passion. I figured this was a small mud job but it still coated the house in dust - even with plastic placed in all areas to reduce exposure. The final project turned out pretty well, though. I still have to paint the trim and clean up the door handles (had to chisel into the wider door to make them fit). But I'll do that at a later time.
