My Review

This book had me conflicted. I enjoyed the story, but the writing and character's challenged me at times. First, the writing was just ok. I don't normally pay much attention to the writing, but there was a good amount of passive voice and several noticeable errors that should have been caught.  Both caused my reading flow to pause, disrupting the story. In all fairness, I'm deep into editing my own first book, likely causing me to pay more attention to these things.

My second issue was that Rosemary and Athena, the two main characters, came across as petulant little children. Their mechanical dialog became tiresome. It was weak at times and not very engaging. That stood out to me the most.

But errors happen, and the writing quality ultimately isn't that important to me. Characters are also personal-while they didn't resonate with me, they may have resonated well with others. I'm ok with that. After all, it's the story that counts.

The story was great. I loved the whole premise of the story and feel like subsequent books have a lot to explore and build upon.
